2014 CROP WALK/TURKEY TROT HELD AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL THIS PAST SUNDAY

(11-23-2014)

Approximately 200 participants ran/walked either the CROP Turkey Trot 2.57 mile or 1.6 mile shortened variation of the longer course on Sunday, the 23rd of November, 2014. Turkeys and pumpkin pies were awarded via random drawing after the run. All donations collected will be utilized by the CROP and LA Cares charitable organizations to help the needy.

THE BEST TIME PREDICTORS FOR THE 2014 PACE RACE SEASON

The best time predictors for the 2014 Atomic City Road Runners Club race season (the top 5 predictors are recognized from their 10 best predictions where the delta time totals added up to the lowest amount in seconds as compared with all other Club members utilizing the same format. Delta time being the difference in seconds between the participant's stated predicted time for a run and the actual recorded time for that run. The winners were awarded cash prizes):

CANDIA HAS PERFECT PREDICTION IN FINAL PACE RACE OF THE SEASON

(10-7-2014)

Roxana Candia had a perfect prediction of her 22:30 time on the Canyon Rim Trail in the final pace race of this season. She was followed by Heidi Bjorklund at only 1 second off her estimated time. Nikol Strother who was also the fastest female finisher in the 3 mile distance at 19:45 and David Kratzer each had a 6 second differential. Zach Medin recorded 8 seconds off his predicted time and Jennifer Reglien was 9 seconds off.

Mariela Saenz was the top finisher on the 1 mile course at 8:55 followed by 4 year old Diego Leonard as the top male with a time of 11:15.

On the 1.5 mile course Linda Vance finished first at 13:37 and Burton Krohn was the fastest male coming in at 25:46.

In the 2 mile competition Reid Rivenburgh had a time of 19:14 and Jackie Marr was the top female at 29:02.

Ted Romero was the top 3 mile finisher recording a 19:44.

Join the Club for the 2015 season which begins on Tuesday, April 7th, 2015 at 6:00 PM again at the Canyon Rim Trailhead on East Road (State Route #502) across from the Co-operative Market.

T-shirts will be available for members for the 2014 season just prior to the upcoming Annual Turkey Trot/CROP Run/Walk which will consist of distances of 2.56 miles or a shorter 1.7 miles on a course on North Mesa starting and finishing at the Los Alamos Middle School. The Event will held on Sunday, November 23rd, 2014 starting at 2:00 PM at the Middle School. Turkeys and pumpkin pies will be won by random drawing for all those participating at the Event. Food will be available. Cash awards for best predictors for the 2014 pace race season will also be handed out.

Club T-shirts may or may not be delivered to you, depending on their availability, just prior to the Turkey Trot/CROP Event; if not, they will be available at the Turkey Trot/Crop Event. If you are unable to make the Event your shirt will be delivered to you shortly after the Event.

McCLELLAN BEST PREDICTOR IN BARRANCA MESA PACE RACE

(9-30-2014)

Thirty-two runners and walkers enjoyed a beautiful evening jaunt for one mile or three mile courses on Barranca Mesa and in Bayo Canyon.

Laura McClellan was the best predictor for the long course, on which runners ran around Barranca Mesa Elementary School and then down the horse trail into Bayo Canyon to the point and back Gonzales Road to Barranca School. She was off her prediction by just 8 seconds over the three miles. Nikol Strother was the second best predictor at 11 seconds off and was the first female finisher of the three mile course with a time of 22:20. Ted Romero was the third best predictor with a delta time of 28 seconds and he was the fastest runner on the long course at 22:00. Other runners whose predictions were less than a minute off were Linda Vance and Tamara Jurado at 45 seconds off and Jessica Baumgaertel at 53 seconds.

On the short (one mile) course, Tom Sandford had the best prediction only being off by 15 seconds (normalized to the three mile course). Duane Marr had the second best prediction of only 39 seconds off followed by Mariela Saenz at 45 seconds off and she was the first finisher with a time of 9:15 and Bob Weeks was the only other runner whose prediction was less than a minute off, at 51 seconds fast.

The one-mile course was fairly flat and fast so many runners came in well ahead of their predictions. Most of the three mile runners beat their predictions in spite of the steep switchback required to get out of the canyon back onto Barranca Mesa.

Next week's pace race will be on Tuesday, October 7th, 2014 and begins at 6:00 pm at the Canyon Rim Trailhead across from the Cooperative Market on East Road (State Route # 502). One, one and a-half, two, and three mile paved courses will be offered. It will be the last weekly pace race of the season.

ROMERO IS BEST PREDICTOR AND TOP FINISHER IN WEEKLY PACE RACE

(9-23-2014)

Ted Romero was only 2 seconds off his predicted time and was the top finisher with a time of 19:50 on the 3 mile course in the weekly pace race held on North Mesa. David Kratzer recorded a 3 second error, Jennifer Reglien had a 18 second differential followed by Burton Krohn at 30 seconds off.

On the 1 mile course Rao Garimella was the fastest finisher. The top female was Lauraine Maness.

The fastest female finisher on the 3 mile course was Nikol Strother with a time of 20:02.

Next Tuesday's pace race will be held on 9-30-2-14 at 6:00 PM and will start in the parking at the Barranca Mesa School on Loma Del Escolar off Barranca Road on Barranca Mesa. 1 and 3 mile courses will be available. The 1 mile course will be paved and the 3 mile course will a hybrid consisting of both paved and trail portions.

STROTHER IS TOP PREDICTOR IN ESTANTE WAY/POTRILLO DRIVE LOOP

Nikol Strother was only 11 seconds off for 6 miles at Tuesday's pace race, and David Kratzer's delta time for 5 miles was 13 seconds.

There were 24 people who competed in the weekly Tuesday pace race. The course was a fairly-flat 1-mile paved-loop mainly on Estante Way in Pajarito Acres in White Rock.

One could run any number of loops but with a requested time of 45 minutes or less. All distances from 1 to 6 miles were done.

The fastest for 1 mile were Sue Elkins (13:07) and Bob Weeks (13:35). For 2 miles, Tamara Jurado and Linda Vance did 20:21, and Tom Sandford did 28:57. The faster 4 milers were Roxana Candia (31:18) and Zach Medin (32:28). David Kratzer did 5 miles in 44:28. For 6 miles, Ted Romero did 41:40 and Nikol Strother did 42:00.

The differences between predicted and actual times were adjusted by distance to 3 miles. The better predictors (with their distances in miles and adjusted delta times in seconds) were Sue Elkins (1, 21), Burton Krohn (1, 24), Tom Sandford (2, 86), Georgia Pedicini (2, 113), Ted Williams (3, 111), Artemia Rojas (4, 23), Katie Gattiker (4, 76), Zach Medin (4, 114), David Kratzer (5, 13), Nikol Strother (6, 11), and Ted Romero (6,20).

Next Tuesday's Pace Race will be held on 9-23-2014 at 6:00 PM and will start near 1287 San Ildefonso Road on North Mesa past the junction of Big Rock Loop almost to the end of San Ildefonso Road. 1 and 3 mile paved courses will be available.

RICE IS BEST PREDICTOR IN WEEKLY PACE RACE

(9-9-2014)

Bill Rice was only 3 seconds off his predicted time in the weekly pace race held on the Burnt Mesa Trail in Bandelier. A host of other participants recorded accurate prediction times: Tamara Jurado was 10 seconds off, Artemia Rojas recorded a 11 second differential, Katie Gattiker was 13 seconds off, Lauraine Maness and Nick Parra-Vasquez tied at 15 seconds, and Linda Vance had a 35 second difference.

Brian Newnam was the top finisher on the 1 mile course at 12:31. Joan Williams was the fastest female with a 24:24.

On the 3 mile course Ted Romero recorded a 22:17 for 1st place and Nikol Strother came in at 22:31 for top female.

Next week's race will be held on Tuesday, 9-16-2014 at 6:00 PM and will take place on the 1 mile paved Estante Way/Potrillo Drive loop in White Rock. Participants may run /walk as many laps of the loop that they prefer up to a 45 minute time limit. This course will allow participants to practice their speedwork. The course can be gotten to by heading West on State Route # 4 through White Rock Center and taking a left on South Monte Rey Drive which is the last street in Pajarito Acres before Bandelier National Monument. Bearing right on Potrillo Drive and taking a right at the second junction of Potrillo Drive and Estante Way. The start of the race is down Estante Way after you turn two tenth's of a mile or less.

SNOW IS THE BEST PREDICTOR IN THE WEEKLY PACE RACE

(9-2-2014)

Mary Snow was the best predictor in the weekly pace race held on the Estante Way Trail in White Rock with a 15 second differential. David Kratzer was just behind her at 16 seconds off his predicted time. Other top predictors were Georgia Pedicini at 21 seconds off and Nikol Strother who also was the fastest female on the 3 mile course with a time of 21:55 with a 25 second difference.

The top runner on the 1 mile course was Tamara Jurado with a time of 9:12. The fastest male was Brian Newnam at 10:51.

Ted Romero was the first runner on the 3 mile course recording a 20:44.

Next week's race will be held on Tuesday, 9-9-2014 at 6:00 PM on the Burnt Mesa Trail which is in Bandelier National Monument on State Route # 4 approximately 2 miles East from the "Back Gate" junction of State Route # 4 and State Route # 501 by taking a left at that junction on to State Route # 4 East. 1 and 3 mile trail runs will be available.

GATTIKER IS TOP PREDICTOR IN AQUATIC CENTER TRAIL PACE RACE

(8-26-2014)

Katie Gattiker was the best predictor at 5 seconds off her prediction in the weekly pace race held on the "Jim Billen" Trail in Pueblo Canyon behind the Aquatic Center with an accompanying light rain. Jessica Baumgaertel was next with a 48 second differential followed by Jackie Marr with at 92 seconds off as well as the first female on the 1 mile paved course at 14:06. 4 year old Diego Leonard had a 93 second difference and also was the overall winner on the 1 mile paved course with a time of 12:29.

Nikol Strother was the fastest finisher on the 3 mile paved course with a 19:57. Bob Weeks was first on the 1 mile trail course recording a 16:17. Georgia Pedicini had a 20:59 on the 1 mile trail course for top female. Ted Romero came in at 27:00 for best finisher on the 3.4 mile trail course and Lynn Bjorklund was the first female with a 30:51 time.

Nick Parra-Vasquez entertained everyone with a ice water bucket head dumping for a ALS disease donation at the end of the race.

Next week's race will be held on Tuesday, September 2nd, 2014 at 6:00 PM in White Rock in Pajarito Acres on Estante Way. It will start at the Estante Way Trailhead. Take a left on South Monte Rey Drive off State Route # 4 West. South Monte Rey Drive is the last Road in Pajarito Acres off State Route # 4 West out of the center of White Rock heading towards Bandelier National Monument. Then bear right off South Monte Rey Drive on to Potrillo Drive and proceed to take a right on to Estante Way off Potrillo Drive. The Estante Way Trailhead is in the 420 number block addresses on Estante Way specifically between the 422 and 428 Estante Way mailboxes. 1 and 3 mile trail runs will be available.

KROHN IS TOP PREDICTOR IN LOWER WATER CANYON PACE RACE

(8-19-2014)

Burton Krohn was the top predictor in the weekly pace race held on the Lower Water Canyon Trail off State Route # 4. He was 48 seconds off his predicted time. Other accurate predictors were Mark Bjorklund with a 50 second differential, Steve Shook at 53 seconds off, and Roxana Candia recording a 66 second difference.

The fastest runner on the 1 mile course was Heather Hughes at 11:52. Bob Weeks was the top male recording a 15:33.

Isolina Viloria was the top runner on the 2 mile distance at 19:57.

Ted Romero recorded the best time on the 3 mile course with a 22:53 time. Nikol Strother had a 24:22 for top female.

Next week's race will be held on Tuesday, 8-26-2014 at 6:00 PM at the Trailhead behind the Aquatic Center. The "Jim Billen" Trail will be utilized encompassing 1 and 3.3 mile runs. A 1 mile paved course will also be available. If the Center parking lot is closed the United Church parking lot located diagonally across the street can be utilized.

MANESS AND SHOOK ARE TOP PREDICTORS IN BARRANCA MESA RACE

(8-12-2014)

Results of the Tuesday Evening pace race at San Il de Fonso Playlot at Barranca Mesa.

It was a cool Autumn Eve for about 40 runners to tackle runs from the top of Barranca Mesa and down toward the golf course.

The fastest 1 milers were Patricia Burnside @ 8:05 and Diego Leonard @ 11:27.

The fastest 3 milers were Ted Romero @ 21:17 and Nikol Strother @ 21:28.

Lauraine Maness and Steve Shook on the 3 mile run were 1 second off their predictions, Mark Bjorklund was 14 seconds off, and Jackie Peckham was 21 seconds off her 1 mile run.

The next pace race will be on the Lower Water Canyon Trail and will take place Tuesday, August 19th, 2014 at 6:00 PM. The Trail is located 2.8 miles on State Route # 4 West from the junction of State Route # 4 and Pajarito Road heading towards Bandelier National Monument in White Rock or 3.7 miles on State Route # 4 West from the junction of State Route # 4 and Rover Boulevard where the gas stations are located in White Rock, again heading towards Bandelier National Monument. 1, 2, and 3 mile trail runs will be available. Strollers should be able to be utilized on the 1 and 2 mile courses.

ELKINS, WEEKS, ROSS BEST PREDICTORS IN QUEMAZON/PERIMETER TRAIL RACE

(8-5-2014)

Thirty-three runners and walkers enjoyed a dry evening for the one mile and three mile courses which had everyone climb up through the Quemazon subdivision. The one milers looped back around to the bottom of Quemazon Road while the three milers headed off onto the Perimeter Trail for a while and then headed down Pipeline Road back to the bottom of Quemazon Road. All finishers were treated to cool watermelon.

Sue Elkins was the best predictor of the night, missing her prediction by only 12 seconds while running the short course. Bob Weeks was the next best predictor, only 21 seconds off and rounding off the top three predictors was Inez Ross who was 30 seconds off. Nikol Strother was the fastest on the one mile course coming in at 7:20.

The long course was actually 2.87 miles long. Ted Romero was the fastest finisher on the course at 23:31 which was just one minute slower than he did last year. He was also the best predictor on the long course, only off by 48 seconds. Felix Candia was the next best predictor being only 65 seconds off of his prediction. Ted Williams was the third best predictor at 116 seconds off his prediction.

Next Tuesday night's pace race on August 12th, 2014 begins at 6:00 pm across the street from the San Ildefonso Play lot on the corner of San Ildefonso road and Barranca Road on Barranca Mesa (the 15 mph corner). 1 and 3 mile paved courses will be available. Strollers can be utilized on the 1 mile course.

STROTHER IS TOP PREDICTOR AND TOP FEMALE FINISHER AGAIN IN PINON PARK RACE

(7-29-2014)

Nikol Strother repeated her achievement of three weeks ago by being the top predictor of 1 second off her predicted time and being the top female finisher in the 3 mile race with a time of 19:41 at Pinon (Rocket) Park in White Rock. Ted Romero followed suit by being the next best predictor with a 5 second differential and recording a 19:27 for best 3 mile finisher.

Other top predictors were Roy Cope at 6 seconds off, Heather Hughes with a 19 second difference, and Duane Marr recording a 21 second differential.

Tad Hughes was first in the 1 mile distance at 6:12 and the top female was Marin Kelly with a time of 6:41.

Next week's race will be held on Tuesday, 8-5-2014 at 6:00 PM in the Quemazon Development across the road from the Quemazon Montessori School on Esperanza which is off Quemazon Road. 1 and 3 mile courses will be available. The 1 mile course is all paved and will be appropriate for strollers and the 3 mile course is a hybrid course (combination paved and trail).

MEDIN IS TOP PREDICTOR IN PICNIC GROUNDS RACE

(7-22-2014)

Sweat was an issue in the minds of over 40 youngsters-to-oldsters as monsoonal humidity added to the challenge of completing one and three mile pace race courses on North Mesa Tuesday evening. Seeking to minimize the difference between their predictions and actual running and walking times, most participants were surprised that they moved much faster than predicted.

The best predictor was Zach Medin (33 second error), followed by Paul Elkins (45 second), Jackie Marr (60 second), and Georgia Pedicini (66 second).

Fastest male and female on the three mile course were Ted Romero (19:10) and Roxana Candia (23:22) while the fastest on the one mile course were Tad Hughes (7:31) and Heather Hughes (11:41).

Next Tuesday's pace race on 7-29-2014 will be at 6:00 PM and will feature one and three mile courses on pavement starting at Pinon (Rocket) Park on Sherwood Boulevard in White Rock, across from Smith's Grocery. This is one of the faster courses of the season and will enable participants to practice their "speedwork" ability. Strollers may be utilized on both courses.

SNOW IS BEST PREDICTOR IN SKI HILL TRAIL RACE

(7-15-2014)

Mary Snow was only 8 seconds off her predicted time in the weekly pace race held on the trail across the road from the Pajarito Ski Lodge. Ted Romero had a 13 second differential and was also the fastest runner on the 3 mile course with a time of 23:33. Other top predictors were Paul Elkins at 33 seconds off and John Ullmann with a 43 second difference.

In the 3 mile race the top female was Roxana Candia recording a 27:21.

The top 2 mile trail participants were Melina Burnside with a time of 21:09 and Nathan Burnside at 21:44 for the male.

In the 2 mile road course Inez Ross had a time of 37:13.

Bob Weeks finished first in the 1 mile trail run at 14:20 and Sue Elkins had a 14:41 for top female.

Artemia Rojas recorded a 12:36 on the 1 mile road course.

Next week's race will be held on Tuesday, 7-22-2014 at 6:00 PM at the North Mesa Picnic Grounds on North Mesa. 1 and 3 mile courses will be available. The 3 mile course will be a hybrid course (combination road and trail) and the 1 mile course will be a road course. Strollers can be utilized on the 1 mile course.

STROTHER IS TOPS IN PREDICTION AND TIME FOR FEMALE IN PAJARITO ACRES RACE

(7-8-2014)

Three runners in the 2.8-mile race had almost perfect predictions: Nikol Strother missed by only 1.5 seconds, Nick Parra-Vasquez by 2 seconds, and Katie Gattiker by 3 seconds. Many runners were within a minute of their predictions.

Tuesday' pace race was held on paved roads in Pajarito Acres between rain storms and started on Acoma Lane.

The best predictors for the 1 mile course (and the time that they were off their prediction adjusted to 3 miles) were Jackie Peckham (9 seconds) and Roy Cope (36 seconds)

The fastest runners for 1 mile were Hannah Gartz (11:08) and Roy Cope (15:58).

For the 2.8 mile course, other good predictors were Brian Newman (10 seconds), Roxana Candia (11 seconds), and Ted Romero (11 seconds).

The fastest runners for 2.8 miles were Ted Romero (18:31) and Nikol Strother (18:38.5).

Next Tuesday's Pace Race on 7-15-2014 at 6:00 PM will be the trail that starts at the end of the paved ski hill road (Camp May Road) opposite and just North of the Pajarito Mountain Ski Lodge. 1, 2, and 3 mile courses will be available. Strollers should be able to utilize the 1 and 2 mile courses or a less imposing 1 mile Camp May Road course.

KRATZER IS TOP PREDICTOR IN PONDEROSA CAMPGROUND RACE

(7-1-2014)

David Kratzer was the top predictor in the weekly pace race held on the trail at the Ponderosa Campground with a 25 second differential from his predicted time. The Strother family rounded out the rest of the best predictors with Savanna at 33 seconds off, Nikol being within 36 seconds of her predicted time, and Billy at a 39 second difference.

Patricia Burnside was the top finisher on the 1 mile open course with a time of 10:23. The fastest male was Zach Medin pushing a stroller at 10:50.

George Glass was the best finisher on the 1 mile trail race at 15:59.

On the 3 mile trail course Ted Romero was first recording a time of 20:31. Roxana Candia was the fastest female coming in at 27:36.

Next week's race will be held on Acoma Lane in Pajarito Acres in White Rock on Tuesday, 7-8-2014 at 6:00 PM. Acoma Lane can be gotten to by taking a left onto Monte Rey Drive South from State Route # 4. Monte Rey Drive South is the last road on the left coming from White Rock center heading toward Bandelier National Monument. Drive down Monte Rey Drive South and bear right onto Potrillo Drive and take first right onto Acoma Lane to the end of the Cul-de-Sac. 1, 2.05, and 2.8 mile distances will be available. Strollers can be utilized on any of the stated distances.

SAENZ BEST PREDICTOR IN QUEMAZON PIPELINE "GUTBUSTER" RACE

(6-24-2014)

Tuesday night's pace race was held in the Quemazon and Pipeline Road areas on steep 1, 3, and 3.2 mile courses.

With all 33 predicted and actual runner times adjusted to the 3.2 mile course, the best predictions were by Mariela Saenz (13 seconds), Meera Nadige (22 seconds), Linda Vance (23 seconds), and Katie Gattiker (41 seconds).

Fastest on the one mile course were Patricia Burnside, female (9:30) and Rao Garimella, male (10:39).

Fastest on the 3 mile course was Zach Medin (37:27).

Fastest on the 3.2 mile course were Ted Romero, male (28:08) and Roxana Candia, female (34:50).

Next Tuesday's pace race on 7-1-2014 will have 1 and 3 mile courses at Bandelier National Monument's Ponderosa Campground just left and East near the intersection of State Roads # 4 and # 501 (The Back Gate) starting at 6:00 PM.

Next week's pace race will be held on Tuesday, 6-24-2014 at 6:00 PM and will be "The New Pipeline Gut Buster". 1 and 3.2 mile courses will be available. The 1 mile course will be a paved course and the 3.2 mile will be a "hybrid" course (combination paved and trail course). The start will be by the play lot on Esperanza Road by Quemazon Montessori School which is located in the Quemazon housing complex. It can be gotten to by taking a left off Diamond Drive on to North Road and then taking a left on to Quemazon Road and taking a right onto Esperanza Road which is the first intersection on Quemazon Road.

GATTIKER IS TOP PREDICTOR IN WEEKLY PACE RACE

Katie Gattiker was the top predictor at 7 seconds off her predicted time in this week's pace race held at East Park. She was followed by Ryan Smeltzer with a 9 second differential. Ted Romero was 19 seconds off and was also the top three mile finisher at 21:19. Jackie Peckham had a 27 second difference.

Patricia Burnside was the 1st one mile participant at 8:21 and Jason Waterbury was the top male with a time of 11:13.

Paulina Burnside finished as the best female in the three mile distance at 26:07.

Next week's event will be held on Tuesday, 6-17-2014 at 6:00 PM and will be the "Powerline Run". It will be a trail run that will start off State Route # 4 approximately three miles West of the State Route # 4/Pajarito Road junction headed towards Bandelier National Monument out of White Rock.

BURNSIDE, MEDIN, AND MARR BEST PREDICTORS IN BARRANCA MESA PACE RACES

(6-3-2014)

In one of the best turnouts in recent memory, forty-seven runners and walkers enjoyed a warm dry evening for the one, two, three and four mile pace race courses on Barranca Mesa. All finishers were treated to cool watermelon.

In the one mile course around Navajo, Los Pueblos and Barranca Roads, Patricia Burnside had the best prediction, only 15 seconds off. Duane Marr was right behind her at 18 seconds off his prediction followed by Roy Cope who was 78 seconds off of his prediction. Anders Medin was the youngest running of the night, at four years old and he beat his predicted time by 99 seconds.

In the three mile road course around Navajo, down almost to the end of Los Pueblos and back around Barranca Road, Nikol Strother had the best prediction of 43 seconds off followed by Amanda Mercer at 72 seconds off of her prediction. The next best predictor was Rao Garimella at 148 seconds off his prediction.

The two mile trail course went out on to the Deer Trap Mesa trail, taking the south folk for an out and back run (or hike). Tad Hughes was the best predictor at 99 seconds off his prediction. Tom Sandford was next at 172 off followed by Nathan Burnside at 241 seconds off his prediction.

Seventeen runners took on the challenge of the 4.13 mile Deer Trap Mesa loop trail that Craig Martin and the Youth Conservation Corps recently established. The tips of three mesas were reached for some great views. Numerous blooming yucca plants encouraged the runners along the trail as did some cactus. Zack Medin was the best predictor at just 16 seconds off his prediction, followed by Lynn Bjorklund at 25 seconds off and Amy Regan at 38 seconds off.

In all, 11 runners did the one mile course, 10 runners did the two mile course, nine runners did the three mile course and 17 runners did the four mile course.

Next Tuesday night's pace race on June 10th, 2014 begins at 6:00 pm at East Park on East Road (State Route # 502) next to the Animal Shelter. This will be a good speedwork exercise for those upcoming competitive Summer races since this all paved course is one of the most consistently flat courses for both the 1 mile and 3 mile races in Los Alamos County.

STROTHER IS TOP PREDICTOR IN "RUN WITH A VIEW" RACE

Twenty nine runners and walkers participated in Tuesday night's pace race. Two courses were available, a paved course on the shoulder of route 501 or a rugged and challenging course on an old wagon road in the hills overlooking S-site with magnificent vistas of the mesas to the east all the way to Rio Grande Valley and beyond.

One mile course:

Susan Krohn error adjusted for 3 miles 72 seconds.

Inez Ross error adjusted for 3 miles 120 seconds.

Patricia Burnside error adjusted for 3 miles 144 seconds also fastest runner with a time of 9:48.

Three mile course:

Nikol Strother error of 63 seconds also fastest runner with a time of 20:46.

David Kratzer error of 71 seconds.

Zach Medin error of 76 seconds.

The Tuesday, June 3rd, 2014 pace race will begin at 6:00 pm at the corner of Barranca and Navajo Roads on Barranca Mesa.

There will be one and three mile courses on pavement and two and four mile courses on the Deer Trap Mesa.

The two-mile trail runners will take the south fork of the trail.

The one-mile paved course will be around the Navajo Road, Los Pueblos Road, Barranca Road loop.

The three-mile paved course will go down Navajo Road, east on Los Pueblos, back on Los Pueblos to Barranca Road and to the finish at Barranca and Navajo Roads.

BURNSIDE MAKES BEST PREDICTION FOR "SATCH COWAN"/QUEMAZON TRAIL RUN

(5-20-2014)

Thirty six runners and walkers participated in Tuesday night's pace race in the Western Area. A one mile course on pavement and sidewalk was available and one and three miles courses on the "Satch Cowan" and Quemazon Trails offered challenging trail negotiation.

Three of the four best predictions were obtained on the paved course. Patricia Burnside's adjusted 9 second error was followed by daughter Melina Burnside's 12 second error and then Colin Pedicini's 87 second error. Fourth best prediction, and best for the difficult 3 mile trail was Rosa Schmitz (115 seconds).

Fastest runners on the one mile course were Melina Burnside (8:19) and Pedicini (13:16) and quickest on the 3 mile trail was Ted Romero (33:12) and Nikol Strother (33:26). Youngest runner to complete the 3 mile trail was 12 year-old Paulina Burnside (38:06).

Next week's Roadrunner pace race on Tuesday, 5-27-2014 at 6:00 p.m., will be "The Run With a View" starting on the north side of State Route # 501 (West Jemez Road) across from LANL's S-Site, about 2 miles west of the ski hill road intersection. One and three mile courses on the pavement for those with strollers and those who prefer a paved course and on the mountain trail will be available.

HUGHES IS TOP PREDICTOR IN ANNUAL "STAGGERED START" RACE

Tad Hughes had the best prediction in Tuesday's pace race, with a delta time adjusted to 3 miles of 7 seconds.

The annual staggered-start pace-race/fun-run was held Tuesday on the White Rock bike path. The predictors with the slowest times started first from Pinon/Rocket Park. The ones with the fastest times (Heather Hughes and Tad Hughes for 1 mile, Ted Romero and Katie Gattiker for 3 miles) started last.

The best predictors (and the time that they were off their prediction) for the 1 mile were Tad Hughes (7 seconds) and Sue Elkins (63 seconds). For the 3 mile course, the best predictors were Mary Snow (22 seconds) and David Kratzer (49 seconds).

Next Tuesday's Pace Race on 5-20-2014 will be 1 and 3 miles on the "Satch Cowan" and Quemazon Trails and 1, 2, and 3 miles on paved roads in the Western area. The start and finish will be at the Quemazon Trailhead, about 100 meters South on the paved spur road near the intersection of Trinity Drive and 48th Street.

McCLELLAN HAS PERFECT PREDICTION IN WEEKLY PACE RACE

(5-6-2014)

Laura McClellan had a perfect prediction of 26:15 on the 3 mile course of the weekly pace race held on American Springs Road up in the Jemez. Other top predictors were Tom Sandford at 6 seconds off, Roxana Candia and Linda Vance tying with a 13 second differential and Tamara Jurado at 14 seconds.

Reid Rivenburgh was the top finisher on the 1 mile course with a time of 10:31 and Sue Elkins was the first female at 15:37.

On the 3 mile course Nikol Strother was first overall recording a 22:17 and Ted Romero was the best male at 22:36.

Next week's race will be held on Tuesday, 5-13-2014 at 6:00 PM starting at Pinon (Rocket) Park across from Smith's Supermarket on Sherwood Boulevard in White Rock. It will be the "Staggered Start" race. One and three mile courses will be available.

McCLELLAN IS TOP PREDICTOR IN RUTH DEMUTH MEMORIAL PACE RACE

(4-29-2014)

Laura McClellan was 1 second off her predicted time in the weekly pace race held on North Mesa which honored long time member the late Ruth Demuth. Other top predictors were Ted Williams at 3 seconds off, Nikol Strother recording a 5 second differential as well as the top finisher on the three mile course at 20:40, Ted Romero at 6 seconds off and the first male in the three mile distance with a time of 21:38, and Linda Vance recording 8 seconds off.

On the one mile course Morela Vargas had the best time of 12:33. Bob Weeks was the first male finisher at 12:53.

Next week's race will be held on Tuesday, May 6th, 2014 at 6:00 PM on American Springs Road which is 1.3 miles off State Route # 4 West up in the Jemez from the junction of State Routes # 4 and # 501 (The Back Gate). One and three mile courses will be available. Strollers can be utilized on both courses.

MARR IS TOP PREDICTOR IN WEEKLY PACE RACE

22 runners and walkers participated in Tuesday's pace race under cloudy skies on the Canada del Buey trail in White Rock.

Best predictors on the one mile course.

1. Jackie Marr delta time, adjusted for three miles 9 seconds.

2. Susan Krohn delta time, adjusted for three miles 12 seconds.

3. Bob Weeks delta time, adjusted for three miles 30 seconds, and fastest runner with a time of 14:10.

Best predictors on the three mile course.

1. Roxana Candia delta time 22 seconds, and fastest runner with a time of 23:12.

2. Mary Snow delta time 23 seconds.

3. Tom Sandford delta time 27 seconds.

Next week's pace race, "The Ruth Demuth Memorial Run", will be held on Tuesday, 4-29-2014 at 6:00 PM at the Rodeo Grounds by Brewer Arena on the access road for the horse stables on North Mesa.

McCLELLAN BEST PREDICTOR

Good running weather accompanied 32 runners and walkers on Tuesday night's (4-15-2014) pace race that started and ended at the Los Alamos County Ice Rink.

Five runners achieved estimated running times with an error under 25 seconds. Best predictor was Laura McClellan (9 sec.), followed by Heidi Bjorklund (18 sec.), Liz Mcdonald (21 sec.), Nikol Strother (22 sec.) and Roy Cope (24 sec.).

Fastest female and male runners on the one mile course were Patricia Burnside (8:59) and Paul Elkins (14:12). Fastest female and male runners on the 3 mile course were Strother (21:22) and Bill Rice (24:13).

Next week's pace race will be at 6:00 p.m. on the Canada del Buey trail in White Rock, just off Meadow Lane west of Chamisa School.

KROHN AND KRATZER TIE FOR BEST PREDICTOR IN WEEKLY PACE RACE

(4-8-2014)

The weekly pace race was held on the Lower Bayo Canyon Road near the Route 4 and 502 junction and Susan Krohn and David Kratzer were the top predictors at 18 seconds off their estimated time. They were followed by Erik Leonard with a 20 second differential with Bill Rice and Bob Reedy next tied at 24 seconds off.

Ted Romero was the fastest finisher in the 1 mile run with a time of 6:25 with Isolina Viloria the top female at 10:06. In the 3 mile run Nikol Strother had the best time of 20:44 and the first male was Zach Medin recording a 24:25.

Next week's race will start on Tuesday, 4/15 at 6:00 PM at the County Ice Staking Rink on West Road in Los Alamos Canyon. 1 and 3 mile courses will be available.

PACE RACE SERIES BEGINS 41ST SEASON

(4-1-2014)

The pace race season opened this past Tuesday on the Canyon Rim Trail with 1, 1.5, 2, and 3 mile distances available.

Cecilia Rivenburgh was the top predictor at 6 seconds off her predicted time followed by David Kratzer with a 22 second differential. Jackie Marr was 33 seconds off and John Ullmann recorded a 43 second difference.

Lexi Tepley was the top 1 mile finisher at 8:43 and Paul Elkins was the best male recording a 13:41. Linda Vance with a time of 13:44 was the top 1.5 mile finisher. Elena Sandoval came in first in the 2 mile with a 16:48 time and Reid Rivenburgh was the top male at 19:42. Ted Romero was first in the 3 mile recording a 19:51 and the top female was Nikol Strother at 20:15.

Next week's run will be held on Tuesday, 4-8-2014 at 6:00 PM near the junction of Main Hill Road (State Route # 502) and State Route # 4 on the road to the Sewage Treatment Plant in lower Bayo Canyon.
